Queen of Swans update and Red Riding Hood Paperback plans!

New readers: Explore a fantasy world full of the fairy tales that you only thought you knew. Start with Volume 1: “Red Riding Hood” here or consult the “Guide for New Readers” above. Thank you for stopping by!

Continuing Readers:  The town looms as a foreboding presence.  “The Moving Shadows,” Chapter 14 of Queen of Swans continues.   This week I have a brief “Author Talk” behind the vote incentive.

Other news — so I’ve basically said that there were plans underway for a paperback copy of “Red Riding Hood.”  I’ve waited to keep things under wraps until the paperwork is signed but it’s official that I’ll be partnering with “Sparkler Distro” to bring the first set of paperbacks to the readers who asked for them.

Barring any problems, the first batch of paperbacks is set to move from the printer to the lovely ladies behind “Sparkler” sometime in the next week and a half.  From that point, we will sort out the actual “release” date for sales at their online shop

There are a myriad of reasons I wanted to go in this direction — and a lot of it has to do with overcoming the self-publisher problem that most people who write face these days.  Having a paperback out on Amazon/Createspace doesn’t mean it actually gets distributed. That’s not to say that a paperback out via Amazon/Createspace will not happen but it will be off the table until possibly the Christmas season.

The one thing I really look forward to is the ability to offer a bundled ebook and paperback which, at this time, I don’t think I will be able to offer elsewhere.  The ebook is an evolving beast and has been a headache for me as I’ve tried to make corrections to your copies. The Smashwords ecosystem has been very good. I’ve been able to upload corrected copies that you can access as soon as you log in. Amazon is not the same and will require more behind the scenes work to get changed.  This is one area that I hope will go much more smoothly with Sparkler.

The paperback will be 506 pages and retail at 18.99 USD prior to any shipping/handling charges that a reader would have to pay to order the book. My goal for the price was a bit lower but self-published works have other base costs that can’t be absorbed.

If you definitely want a book please flag it for me here or via email or twitter. I took a very conservative approach in placing an order for books .  If what I hear doesn’t match what is being sent for stock, then I will get more into the hands of Sparkler so we avoid a waiting period for interested readers 🙂

Let me know if you have any questions or comments. Thanks!
